The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Ogbomoso Zone in Oyo State has debunked claims that it has taken part in endorsing or has endorsed aspirants for state and federal legislative seats as well as the Oyo North, Oyo South Senatorial Districts and Oyo governorship ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a joint press release issued on Sunday after the zone’s leadership meeting, the party described the reports circulating in dailies and on social media as entirely false and total fabrications of their sponsors.
The statement clarified that the PDP in Ogbomoso Zone, comprising Ogbomoso South, Oriire, Ogbomoso North, and Ogo Oluwa/Surulere state constituencies, and the Ogbomoso South/North/Oriire and Ogo Oluwa/Surulere federal constituencies, parts of Oyo North and Oyo South senatorial districts, has not commenced any stakeholders meeting or any endorsement process or take part in any.
According to the statement, the zone is currently carrying out membership mobilisation and orientation, a phase preluding commencement of stakeholders meetings for such endorsement.
The party attributed the misinformation to elements in the sacked Turaki group, accusing them of attempting to usurp the powers of the National Executive Committee led by National Chairman, Honourable Abdulrahman Muhammed; and also a calculated attempt to give false hope to and raise false trust in the minds of some party members.
“Several of such fraudulent attempts had been identified in the past. This latest fabrication is not merely a continuation of their disobedience to valid court pronouncements, but also aimed at fleecing aspirants in their midst and exploiting the party’s current robust profile for their illicit gains,” the statement read.
The Zone reaffirmed its loyalty to the Abdulrahman-led National Working Committee and stated that it is working in close collaboration with the relevant authentic party organs from the wards to national and stakeholders on matters concerning party primaries.
The party further urged the general public to disregard the falsehoods, adding that official information on primaries and other activities will be disseminated only through party channels and formal press statements.
