Oyo Fire Service Urges Vehicle Maintenance After Extinguishes Burning Pickup Loaded With Flour In Ibadan

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Wednesday swiftly responded to a vehicle fire along Parliament Road, Agodi, Ibadan, successfully extinguishing the blaze and preventing further damage.

According to the Agency, the distress call was received at exactly 1:53 p.m. through a running call and one RFM Busari Ridwan, prompting officers led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Adigun to immediately mobilise to the scene.

On arrival, the firefighters found a Mitsubishi pickup truck with Lagos registration number SMK 636 YJ, loaded with 30 bags of flour, engulfed in flames while in motion.

The fire crew quickly deployed firefighting equipment, including a hose line, and brought the fire under control before it could spread.

The Agency confirmed that no casualty was recorded in the incident, adding that preliminary findings revealed that the fire was caused by an overheated engine.

Following the operation, ACFS Adigun educated the vehicle occupants and bystanders on fire safety measures, urging members of the public to promptly alert the Fire Service whenever a fire emergency occurs.

The firefighting team returned safely to the station at 2:10 p.m. and resumed standby duties.

Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, advised motorists to regularly inspect and maintain their vehicles before embarking on any journey.

He also stressed the importance of equipping vehicles with functional fire extinguishers to enable drivers tackle minor fire outbreaks before they escalate.
