In a renewed push to curb crime and safeguard residents, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, has intensified efforts to strengthen community security with the construction of an Amotekun Security Post in the council area.
The move is part of the administration’s commitment to ensuring a safer environment for traders, residents, and businesses across Ibadan South West, one of the most densely populated local governments in Oyo State.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the newly reinforced Amotekun post at Popoyemoja , Hon. Akande said the safety of lives and property remains the top priority of his administration.

“We cannot talk about development without peace. This Amotekun post is strategic to ensuring that our markets, schools, and residential areas are protected 24 hours a day,” Akande stated. “My administration is working closely with Amotekun Corps, the Police, and other security agencies to ensure rapid response to any threat.”
According to him, the collaboration with Amotekun is also aimed at protecting residents, market traders, and artisans who are critical to the local economy.
Market leaders and residents who spoke during the visit applauded the Chairman’s intervention. Alhaji Rasaq Adebayo, a community leader in Popoyemoja , said: “Once the Amotekun Post is completed and Amotekun corps are deploy we will sleep with our two eyes closed. We thank Hon. Akande for listening to us.”
Hon. Akande urged residents to cooperate with security operatives by providing timely information and avoiding jungle justice. He reiterated that the local government will continue to invest in intelligence gathering, street lighting, and community policing initiatives.
With this development, Ibadan South West Local Government is positioning itself as a model for grassroots security partnership under the Oyo State Security Network, Amotekun.
