The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained a fire outbreak at a private residential building located at No. 16, Zone 5, Agoro Aroko Area, Brewery, Alakia, Ibadan, with no casualty recorded.
The distress call was received at about 2:32 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, through Mr. Akinlolu, prompting the immediate mobilisation of a firefighting team led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Oyeniyi.
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers met an eight-room residential building already engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected premises.
The firefighters immediately commenced concerted firefighting operations and successfully brought the situation under control within a short period, preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining properties.
Preliminary findings attributed the cause of the fire to an unattended cooking gas.
No life was lost in the incident, while the fire crew safely returned to the station at about 5:06 p.m. and remained on standby for further emergency response.
Following the operation, the officer in charge delivered a brief fire-safety lecture to members of the public, urging residents to promptly contact the Fire Service whenever they notice a fire outbreak and to provide accurate information about the location to facilitate rapid intervention.
The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, further urged residents to remain vigilant and fire-conscious, stressing the importance of taking necessary precautions to prevent avoidable fire disasters.
Akinwande also advised households to install functional fire extinguishers in their homes to enable occupants to tackle fire incidents at the incipient stage before they escalate.
The Agency reiterated its appeal to members of the public to promptly report fire emergencies and provide accurate addresses to enable firefighters to respond swiftly.
