The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing economic development by supporting initiatives like the Solar Expo 2024.
In his keynote address, Honourable Adeniyi Adebisi, Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives, who was represented by Mr. Jide Williams, Deputy Director of Industry, made this known during a two days Solar Energy Product Exhibition, held at the International Conference Center, University of Ibadan theme: “Solar Energy Contributing To Advancing Economic Development” while also commending the organizers for hosting a successful mega solar exhibition, showcasing a commitment to sustainable energy transition.
Honourable Adeniyi Adebisi emphasized that the exhibition
aims to strengthen the industrial and economic sectors through affordable, effective, adequate, and qualitative electricity supply. He highlighted the potential of solar energy to:
- Encourage youths to explore solar business opportunities, alleviating poverty and addressing job creation challenges
- Provide a reliable source of income for youths and a sustainable energy source for entrepreneurs, industrialists, and investors
- Combat climate change and reduce carbon footprint through environmental sustainability and cleaner energy sources
Mr. Ayodeji Oshodi, Head Consultant of Foresight Corporate Consult, explained the inclusion of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, stating, “We recognize the Oyo State Government’s concern for the future of youths, particularly graduates and their career prospects. We saw this event as an opportunity to collaborate with solar energy companies and explore ways to integrate these young individuals into the solar energy industry.”
Oshodi expressed gratitude for the Oyo State Government’s support and encouragement in making the program a reality.
Adebisi also praised Governor Seyi Makinde for creating an enabling environment for investors and economic operators, providing adequate security, infrastructure, loans, and business interventions for MSMEs. He urged participants to leverage the opportunity to expand their business initiatives and create lasting networks in the solar energy transition.
