The authorities of tertiary institutions in Oyo State have appealed to the leadership of the unions to put in abeyance the planned strike action billed to commence today, Monday 10th March, 2025, over minimum wage payment.
The Rectors of The Polytechnic, Ibadan (TPI), Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, The Okeogun Polytechnic, Saki, The College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora and the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate during an emergency meeting held at The Polytechnic, Ibadan yesterday, 9th March, 2025 with representatives of the leadership of the industrial unions under the aegis of Joint Action Committee (JAC) to give the Management of the Institutions more time for negotiations and consultation.
The Authorities of the Institutions noted that a strike action as of now is ill-timed and will disrupt activities in the various institutions as well as efforts being made on consultations and negotiations.
The authorities further noted that it would be appreciated if the unions considered the negative effects such a strike would have on the students and the neighbourhood where the institutions are located.
The Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of Industrial Unions in the tertiary institutions, TPL. Dr. Kola Lawal assured the authorities of the institutions that being representatives of the unions, an online meeting would be held with their Executives and members to consider the appeal made by the authorities of the various institutions.
