- A major political coalition of Nigeria’s top opposition forces, the National Consultative Front (NCFront), has disclosed an ongoing effort to get the main contenders for the 2023 presidential election together. In particular, it named Rabiu Kwankwanso, Peter Obi, and former vice president Atiku Abubakar as some of the people it was attempting to get together to create a new massive movement to free Nigeria from the “misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC)”.
This was revealed by the organization headed by Professor Pat Utomi in a statement released on Tuesday by Mallam Hamisu San Turaki, the group’s national spokesperson. NCFront praised and congratulated Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, for what it called his “deft political moves to rally leading opposition leaders in the country to engage and challenge the misrule of the country by the ruling APC.” The group further stated that NCFront has accepted Obi’s consultations with Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate for the 2023 election, and other prominent opposition personalities in the nation. The group claims that the strategic consultations are merely a prelude to the start of a number of planned activities.

In light of this, the issue of political party mergers is pushed to the side for now and will only be discussed if it becomes imperative following the creation of the nation’s next megaparty by like-minded political figures and organizations, the statement said. It is noteworthy that the aforementioned operating procedure was approved at the Committee’s first meeting, which was held in Lagos on February 6, 2024, under the chairmanship of Professor Pat Utomi. Prof. Pat Utomi, Engineer Buba Galadima, Senator Shehu Sanni, Amb. Mrs. Nkoyo Toyo, Barr Ladipo Johnson, Mallam Ibrahim Ali Ansami, Mr. Adai Edwin Adai, Obongawan Barbara James, Barr Promise Adewusi, mni, Mrs. Chinyere Oforkansi, Mallam Hamisu San Turaki, and others are members of the Broad-based Realignment and Fusion Implementation Committee.
