The Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Oyo Zonal Command, on Tuesday responded promptly to a fire incident involving a telecommunications facility along Ajegunle Road in Oyo Town, successfully preventing extensive damage and loss of property.

The distress call was received at exactly 12:51 a.m. on April 14, 2026, through a telephone report indicating that a telecommunications mast located beside the residence of Alhaja Modinat Ajisope had caught fire.

Fire service personnel, led by Fire Officer II Yisau, were immediately deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the team discovered that a 500KVA generator at an IHS telecommunications site was engulfed in flames.

The firefighters swiftly brought the situation under control, effectively containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to the mast and nearby properties. No casualties were recorded during the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by overheating in the generator’s engine compartment, which ignited and led to the blaze.

Following the operation, the fire crew also conducted a brief public sensitization session on fire prevention at the scene. The firefighting appliance returned safely to the station at 1:55 a.m. and remained on standby.

In a statement, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to remain vigilant about fire safety. He emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguishers in public and commercial buildings to curb fire outbreaks at early stages.
