

Oyo gubernatorial hopeful and Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Oyo State, Professor Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin, has been honoured by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) with the prestigious Icon of Ibadan Heritage Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Ibadanland.
The award presentation, which was part of the 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival Week, held at Ibadan House, Yemetu, attracted prominent dignitaries, traditional stakeholders, and well wishers from across the state.

Speaking at the event, the President General of CCII, Barrister Ajeniyi Ajewole, described Prof. Shangodoyin as a worthy son of Ibadan who has consistently upheld the values and heritage of the ancient city. He commended his service to Oyo State, particularly in his current role as Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, noting that his impact reflects dedication, competence, and commitment to progress.


Barr. Ajewole further used the occasion to praise Governor Seyi Makinde for his transformational leadership, stating that the administration has continued to reposition Ibadan and Oyo State for sustainable development.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Shangodoyin expressed deep appreciation to CCII for the honour, describing it as a recognition that carries both pride and responsibility. He emphasized that the award represents a call to do more in preserving and advancing the legacy of Ibadan.
He dedicated the award to Governor Seyi Makinde, whom he described as a visionary leader committed to building systems and delivering impactful governance. According to him, the progress witnessed in Ibadan and Oyo State is a testament to purposeful leadership and strategic execution.
Prof. Shangodoyin also highlighted the importance of infrastructure and energy development, noting that improved power supply and functional systems are key drivers of economic growth and prosperity. He encouraged the youth of Ibadan to remain ambitious and uphold the proud heritage of the city.
The event was graced by notable personalities who accompanied the awardee, including Alhaji Chief Babatunde Tijani (Double T); Dr(Mrs)Oluranti Shangodoyin, member of the Governing Council, Abiola Ajimobi Technical University; Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, Ag Rector, The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Hon. Abiodun Adedoja Ekolo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy Security; Alhaji Demola Olagunju, President of Ibadan Action Council; former Commissioner Engr. Ayuba Balogun; Mr. and Mrs. Akin Salami; Barrister and Mrs. Biola Ladapo; Barrister Tunde Akande, as well as members of the Ibadan Action Council.
The ceremony further reinforced the significance of the Ibadan Cultural Festival as a platform for celebrating excellence, heritage, and individuals who continue to project the image of Ibadan on a larger stage.
