The Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Wednesday successfully contained two separate fire incidents in Ibadan, preventing loss of life and minimizing property damage.

The first incident occurred at Anuward Enterprises, a building materials shop located in Olorunda Abaa area of the city. According to the agency, a distress call was received at approximately 6:26 p.m., prompting an immediate response from a team of firefighters led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Amoo.

On arrival, the shop was already engulfed in flames and thick smoke. Firefighters swiftly brought the situation under control, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and properties. Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical spark following the restoration of power, which ignited combustible materials within the shop.

No casualties were recorded, and only the affected shop sustained damage. The agency also commended officers of the Nigeria Police from Olorunda Division for providing adequate security during the operation. Firefighters returned to base at about 8:28 p.m.

Earlier in the day, at about 3:03 p.m., the agency responded to another fire outbreak at Oasis Palace Hotel, located at Airport Junction in the Alakia area of Ibadan. The fire, which affected the roof of a room on the upper floor of the building, was also attributed to an electrical spark.

A firefighting team, again led by ACFS Amoo and supported by the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command, successfully contained the blaze before it could spread to other parts of the hotel. The incident caused only minor damage to a single room, while the rest of the building and its contents were preserved. No injuries or fatalities were reported. The operation concluded with the team returning to the station at approximately 5:16 p.m.

Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser on Fire Service Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness. He urged residents to promptly report fire emergencies and provide accurate location details to enable swift response.

He also advised the public to ensure proper electrical installations are carried out by qualified professionals and stressed the need for functional fire extinguishers in homes and commercial buildings to curb fire outbreaks at their early stages.
