The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained two separate fire incidents in Ibadan and Ogbomoso, preventing extensive damage and loss of life.

The first incident occurred late on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Aiyegun Akata Area, Ile Osa Alagbede in Ogbomoso. According to the Ogbomoso Zonal Command, the distress call was received at about 11:47 p.m. through a resident, Mr. Jimoh. Firefighters, led by PFS II Falaye, were immediately deployed to the scene.

On arrival, the crew discovered that a room in an old residential building had been engulfed by fire. The officers swiftly mounted a coordinated response and extinguished the blaze within minutes, successfully preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. No casualties were recorded, and only the affected room sustained minor damage. Preliminary findings traced the cause of the fire to a carelessly discarded cigarette butt, which ignited nearby combustible materials.

Barely 24 hours later, another fire outbreak was reported at Sungas Aluminum Company, located along Km 110, Iyaganku, Ibadan. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, April 30, 2026, was reported at about 7:38 p.m. by a caller identified as Mr. Yusuf.

Firefighters from the Agency’s headquarters, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adekola, responded promptly. Upon arrival, they found an office building with an adjoining warehouse engulfed in flames. The team quickly brought the situation under control, successfully restricting the fire from spreading to nearby structures and valuable properties.

As with the earlier incident, no casualties were recorded. Investigations revealed that the fire was caused by electrical sparks from an unattended appliance, which ignited nearby combustible materials.

In both cases, the fire service personnel conducted brief fire safety sensitisation sessions for occupants and bystanders to prevent future occurrences. The agency confirmed that properties worth millions of naira were saved due to the swift intervention of its officers.

Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to be more vigilant about fire safety. He emphasised the importance of installing functional fire extinguishers in homes, shops, and commercial buildings.

He also advised members of the public to promptly report fire emergencies and provide accurate information to facilitate quick response, adding that the agency remains reachable through its emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, and 615 (toll-free).

Both firefighting teams safely returned to their stations after the operations and remain on standby for further emergencies.
