The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained three separate fire incidents in Ibadan and Saki, preventing further destruction and saving properties worth millions of naira.
The incidents, which occurred between Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026, affected residential buildings and commercial shops in different parts of the state. No casualty was recorded in any of the incidents.

In Saki, firefighters from the Saki Command responded to a distress call at about 5:10 p.m. on Saturday following a report of a fire outbreak at Igbo-Baale, behind Baptist Medical Center, Ajegunle area. The emergency was reported by a resident, Mr. Oladepo Samuel.

The firefighting team, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Ayegbokiki, arrived at the scene to find a two-flat residential building engulfed in flames and thick smoke. The officers swiftly curtailed the inferno, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a domestic cooking gas left unattended.
Similarly, personnel from the agency’s Headquarters in Ibadan responded to another fire incident at No. 19 Ogunleye Avenue, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, at about 8:09 p.m. on the same day.
The fire, reported by Hon. Ismail, affected a room-and-parlour self-contained apartment located on the upper floor of a storey building. Firefighters led by PFS II Ojo quickly brought the situation under control and stopped the blaze from spreading to other parts of the building.
The agency attributed the incident to unattended domestic gas, noting that properties worth millions of naira were salvaged during the operation.
Barely hours later, at about 3:06 a.m. on Sunday, firefighters were again deployed to BCGA along Gbekuba Road, Apata, Ibadan, following reports of a fire outbreak in a commercial area.
On arrival, the firemen discovered that seven out of 30 shops in the complex had already been engulfed in flames and thick smoke. The team, led by CFS Adesina, successfully contained the blaze and prevented it from affecting the remaining shops.
According to the agency, the fire was caused by electrical sparks which ignited nearby combustible materials.
Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser on Fire Service Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to adhere strictly to safety precautions while using domestic gas and electrical appliances.
He also stressed the importance of engaging qualified technicians for electrical installations and installing functional firefighting equipment in homes, shops and commercial buildings to curb fire outbreaks at the early stage.
