The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained two separate fire incidents in Ibadan, preventing further destruction of properties and averting possible casualties.

The first incident occurred late Tuesday night at an AP Filling Station located along Old Ife Road, Jagun, near Alakia Airport, Ibadan. According to the agency, the distress call was received at exactly 10:40 p.m. through a telephone report made by one Mr. Abdulrasaq.

Firefighters led by Principal Fire Superintendent (PFS) Ojo promptly mobilised to the scene, where they discovered that the mini-mart section of the filling station had been engulfed by fire.

The agency disclosed that its personnel acted swiftly to contain the inferno, successfully preventing it from spreading to the station’s underground fuel tanks, adjoining structures and other valuable properties within the premises.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by sparks from an unattended electrical appliance plugged into a power source.

No casualty was recorded in the incident, while firefighting operations were concluded and the crew returned to the station at about 11:54 p.m.

In a related development, the agency also responded to another fire outbreak at No. 2, Mobolorunduro, Balaro Street, Oju-Odo Academy area of Ibadan in the early hours of Wednesday.

The emergency call was received at exactly 2:33 a.m. through a telephone report by Mr. Idris, prompting immediate deployment of fire personnel led by PFS II Ojo.

The cause of the second fire incident is still under investigation, while no casualty was recorded.

The agency confirmed that all operational appliances returned safely to the station by 4:29 a.m. and remained on standby for further emergencies.

Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to remain vigilant and conscious of fire safety at all times.

He further stressed the importance of installing functional fire extinguishers in residential and commercial buildings to help curb fire outbreaks at their early stages.

The agency also appealed to members of the public to promptly report fire emergencies and provide accurate addresses through its emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or the toll-free line 615.
