The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Akande, has felicitated with residents of the council and all Nigerians on the 27th anniversary of uninterrupted democracy in the country, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to people-centered governance and community development.
In a message released on Democracy Day, Hon. Akande said the milestone of 27 years of civil rule is a testament to Nigerians’ resilience and collective will to build a nation where every voice counts.
“As we celebrate 27 years of uninterrupted democracy, I salute the good people of Ibadan South West Local Government. You are the reason we serve. We are driven by you, and our focus is to keep adding value to our society through policies and projects that improve your daily lives,” the Chairman stated.
Hon. Akande used the occasion to call for prayers and support for the students and staff abducted in Oriire Local Government. He described the incident as painful and urged residents across Oyo State to stand in solidarity with the affected families.
“I join millions of Nigerians in praying for the safe and easy return of the students and staff kidnapped in Oriire. Their absence is felt by all of us. We must not grow weary in prayer and in pushing for their release,” he said.
The Chairman also charged residents of Ibadan South West to remain vigilant and cooperative with security agencies and government at all levels. He noted that sustaining democracy and community safety requires active citizen participation.
“Democracy thrives when the people are involved. I appeal to all residents to be security conscious, report suspicious activities, and cooperate fully with government at the federal, state, and local levels. Together, we can keep our communities safe and ensure that democracy delivers its dividends to every home,” Hon. Akande added.
He reassured constituents that his administration remains committed to inclusive governance, youth empowerment, healthcare, and infrastructure development, pledging to build on gains recorded since he assumed office.
Residents have been urged to use the Democracy Day period for reflection, prayers for the nation, and renewed commitment to peace and unity.
