Egbeda Council Chair, Convenes Security Stakeholders’ Summit; Dialogue And Chart New Directions On Curbing Menace

In a renewed effort to sustain peace, support lawful initiatives and create a secure environment conducive to economic and social development, the Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda (Lajuee), has convened a town hall meeting with security stakeholders in Ibadan.

The security summit, held at the SDP Building, WEMA Bank Area, Ibadan, brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the growing security challenges confronting communities across Oyo State.

Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Lajuee emphasized the need for collective action in addressing emerging threats, noting that the increasing incidents of kidnapping, banditry, farmer-herder conflicts and other criminal activities have become matters of serious concern.

According to him, the evolving security situation requires innovative, proactive and community-driven approaches to security management in order to safeguard lives, property and the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.

“As leaders and stakeholders, we cannot afford to fold our arms while criminal elements threaten the peace, stability and prosperity of our communities,” he said.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police and Commandant of the Police Training School, Eleyele, DCP Sulaimon Ishola, who attended as the guest security expert, delivered a presentation on practical strategies for improving and strengthening security architecture at the grassroots level.

The summit attracted a broad spectrum of participants, including former Minister of Power, Dr. Wole Oyelese; Pastor Akinade Alamu; Rt. Hon. Busari Olayemi; Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola; the Vice Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Oladeebo (Simple); and the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Olusola Olakanmi.

Also in attendance were traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, representatives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), pensioners, farmers, herders, members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Amotekun Corps, local hunters, market leaders, the Park Management System (PMS), the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other security agencies.

Participants at the summit underscored the importance of collaboration among government, security agencies and community stakeholders as a critical pathway to addressing security concerns and sustaining peace across Egbeda Local Government and Oyo State at large.
