The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has prevented a major fire disaster following the prompt containment of a kitchen fire that broke out at Ashipa Konbuko Compound in the Molete area of Oyo town on Friday.

According to the agency, the distress call was received at exactly 11:34 a.m. through a running call made by one Mr. Yekeen Alao, who reported that a residential building was on fire.

The Oyo Zonal Command immediately deployed a team of firefighters led by Fire Officer II (FO II) Yisau Opeyemi to the scene.

On arrival, the firefighters discovered that the kitchen of a private three-bedroom residential apartment had been engulfed by flames. The crew swiftly commenced firefighting operations, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the building and neighbouring properties.

The agency confirmed that no life was lost and no injuries were recorded in the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by an unattended pressure pot used for cooking, which ignited nearby combustible materials and triggered the blaze.

Following the operation, the firefighters conducted a brief fire safety awareness session for residents, emphasizing the need for vigilance while cooking and adherence to basic fire prevention measures.

The firefighting team completed the operation and returned safely to the station at about 12:17 p.m.
