There was a major breakthrough in community security on Wednesday as the Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, led a joint security operation that uncovered a suspected criminal hideout at Odo-Ona area of the council.

The location, described by residents as a market for illegal things and a den for evil activities, had made it difficult for security guards to assess what was going on there. For months, the area had been linked to vandalism and other criminal acts disturbing peace in the community.

According to community leaders, several letters and appeals were written to the council inviting the chairman to come to their aid. For over six months, notices of evacuation and removal were served to occupants of the hideout, but they refused to vacate.

During the raid carried out in collaboration with security agencies, Hon. Akande was joined by top council officials including the HLGA, *Alhaji Babatunde Olagunju*, Director of Works, *Alhaji Olona*, Director of Estate, and other local government workers. The team recovered items suspected to be used for unlawful purposes.

Residents alleged that those operating from the den were involved in vandalisation of electrical cables, street lights, and property belonging to the Water Corporation.

Speaking after the operation, Hon. Kehinde Akande assured residents that the local government would not tolerate any act capable of threatening peace and security in the area. He commended the security agencies for their prompt response and urged residents to continue providing useful information.

The achievement was hailed by community leaders, Adepoju Popoola, Chairman of Gada/Olugbode Community, Odo-Ona, Ibadan, said: “The achievement here today is historical as community residents will sleep better.”

Also speaking, the Baale of Odo-Ona, Oloye Mojeed Gunwa Tajo, echoed the same sentiment, saying the raid has brought relief to residents who had lived in fear.

Residents have expressed appreciation to Hon. Kehinde Akande, the council team, and security operatives for the swift action, saying the operation has restored confidence and calm to Odo-Ona and neighboring communities.

The local government reiterated its commitment to regular patrols and community engagement to prevent crime and sustain peace across all wards.
