The Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, has welcomed the defection of thousands of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), describing the development as an indication of the party’s expanding acceptance across Oyo State.
Oyedele spoke at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at Adamasingba, Ibadan, where a large number of APC members formally announced their decision to join the APM.
The defectors, led by Ajiboye Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, a personal assistant and loyalist of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, were drawn from different local government areas across the state.
Speaking at the event, which attracted APM leaders, political stakeholders, candidates and supporters, Oyedele said the development demonstrated the increasing influence of grassroots political mobilisation and the growing interest in the direction of governance in Oyo State.
According to him, the movement of the defectors into the APM reflects what he described as increasing confidence in the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde and the political platform supporting continuity and development in the state.
“Today’s gathering is significant because it demonstrates that political participation is increasingly influenced by leadership, performance and the desire for sustainable development.
“The movement of thousands of APC members into the APM is a clear demonstration of the growing acceptance of our party and the direction of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration,” Oyedele said.
The Egbeda council chairman welcomed the new members to the APM, assuring them that the party remained committed to inclusiveness and equal participation.
He urged members and stakeholders of the party to remain united, disciplined and focused on grassroots engagement, noting that the strength of any political organisation depends largely on its ability to mobilise people around shared values and a common vision.
Oyedele also congratulated the defectors on their decision, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the party and the development of their respective communities.
The event, held under the theme, “Young, United, Unstoppable (YUU),” featured performances by notable Fuji artistes, including Alhaji Taye Currency, Alhaji Tiri Leather, Babatunmise, Ododo Emi, Ajao Samson Ajeseun Band and Aare Rasaq Ayanfe, among others.
The gathering was attended by senior government officials, APM leaders, serving members of the National Assembly and Oyo State House of Assembly, commissioners, party candidates, political stakeholders and supporters from across the state.
