The Executive Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Honourable Kehinde Akande, on Monday visited the Ubomi Free Medical and Surgical Outreach being organized by the PISTIS Foundation at Ring Road, Mobil Bus Stop, Ibadan.
The outreach, which kicked off on September 21st and will run through September 25th, 2025, is providing free medical consultations, drugs, laboratory tests and minor surgical procedures to residents.
Hon. Akande, who was received by the organizers and medical volunteers, went round the different units of the outreach, interacting with beneficiaries and the medical team.
Addressing journalists after the tour, the council chairman commended the foundation for its humanitarian gesture, describing it as a timely intervention that will help many residents who cannot afford quality healthcare.
“What PISTIS Foundation is doing here is highly commendable. This is what community service should be about touching lives directly. I want to thank all the doctors, nurses and volunteers who have dedicated their time and skills to serve the people of Ibadan for free,” Akande said.
The council boss also used the opportunity to appreciate the health support programmes being implemented by the administration of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde across Oyo State.
He noted that Governor Makinde has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the health sector through the renovation and equipping of primary healthcare centres, recruitment of health workers, provision of free health insurance for the vulnerable, and consistent support for health interventions that bring quality care closer to the people at the grassroots.
According to him, the Ubomi outreach complements the efforts of the state government and shows what is possible when government and private organizations work together for the good of the people.
“This free health mission aligns perfectly with the Omituntun 2.0 sustainable development agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde, which prioritizes accessible and affordable healthcare for all residents. We appreciate the Governor for creating an enabling environment for such initiatives to thrive in the state,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the foundation, the organizers of the Ubomi Medical and Surgical Outreach said the mission was borne out of the need to bridge the healthcare gap for vulnerable and low-income families in Ibadanland.
According to them, the free health mission is open to everyone within communities across Ibadanland, regardless of local government area, and urged residents to take advantage of the five-day programme to check their health status.
Some beneficiaries who spoke at the venue expressed gratitude to the foundation and the local government chairman for his presence and encouragement, praying that the outreach would be sustained.
The outreach continues daily from 8am at the Ring Road, Mobil Bus Stop venue until Thursday, September 25th.
