The Oyo State Fire Services Agency successfully responded to two major emergency incidents within 24 hours in Ibadan, showcasing rapid intervention, inter-agency collaboration, and strong commitment to public safety.

The first incident occurred at exactly 19:40hrs on Friday, 21st November 2025, when a distress call from Pastor Oyebamiji reported a gas explosion at Idi-Iroko, Amuloko area, Ibadan. Fire personnel, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adedeji (Mrs), were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders met a tanker with registration number LSR268YC, loaded with 15 tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which had exploded while transferring gas into a skid tank. The blast caused significant damage to two shops and a residential building, while three individuals were recovered and handed over to Policemen from Akanran Division. Federal Fire Service officers from the Ibadan Command later joined the operation.

The explosion triggered widespread panic among residents, but the swift intervention of the fire crew prevented further escalation.

The Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to strictly observe safety procedures when handling petroleum products. He emphasized the need for obtaining approvals from relevant bodies such as the Fire Service and DPR before installing gas tanks or cylinders.

Fire appliances returned to base at 00:04hrs and were placed on standby.

Barely hours later, at 01:56hrs on Saturday, 22nd November 2025, the Agency received another emergency call from Mr. Musibau reporting a fire outbreak at GOLAB Shopping Complex, Redeem Junction, Bembo, Apata, Ibadan.

Again led by CFS Adedeji (Mrs), officers rapidly mobilized to the location, where they met five shops on the upper floor of the complex engulfed in flames. Firefighters launched an aggressive and well-coordinated attack, successfully preventing the inferno from spreading to other sections of the building.

No casualties were recorded. The cause of the fire remains unknown as investigation continues. The fire unit returned to the station at 04:02hrs.
