The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully extinguished two separate fire incidents in different parts of Ibadan, preventing extensive damage to lives and property during the Yuletide period.
The first incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, December 26, 2025, at Amosun Compound, Aremo, Ibadan. A distress call was received at about 12:15 a.m. through a telephone report by a resident, Mr. Mayowa, alerting the agency to a house fire. Firefighters led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adekola were immediately deployed to the scene.
On arrival, three bungalow residential buildings were already engulfed in flames. The fire crew swiftly swung into action and requested additional fire trucks from the Fire Service Headquarters to reinforce the operation. Through coordinated efforts, the firefighters contained and extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and properties.

Three occupants were rescued alive with minor injuries and were promptly treated at a nearby hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical appliance left plugged in during a power outage, which ignited when electricity was restored.
In a separate incident, the agency responded to another distress call at about 7:14 p.m. on Thursday, December 25, 2025, reporting a fire outbreak at Ajibade Street, opposite GTBank, Mokola, Ibadan. The call was made through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Bodija Estate. Fire personnel, again led by CFS Adekola (Mrs), mobilised promptly to the location.
At the scene, firefighters encountered heaps of refuse that had been set ablaze, posing a threat to nearby buildings. The officers immediately brought the situation under control, successfully preventing the flames from spreading to surrounding properties. No casualties were recorded, and properties worth millions of naira were saved. The refuse was reportedly set on fire by unknown persons, while a crew of the Federal Fire Service provided support during the operation.
Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, advised residents to always unplug electrical appliances when not in use to prevent fire outbreaks. He also cautioned members of the public against the practice of burning refuse and bushes, especially during the dry season, warning that such actions could lead to devastating fire disasters.
Hon. Akinwande further urged residents to promptly report fire incidents and save the agency’s emergency contact lines — 08067439223, 08054353501, and 615 (toll-free) — while stressing the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes to tackle early-stage fires.
Both fire appliances were later returned to their respective stations and placed on operational standby after the successful operations.
