The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained two separate fire incidents in Ibadan, preventing significant property damage and recording no casualties in both cases.
The first incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at a furniture workshop located opposite Polaris Bank, Idi Ape, along Iwo Road. According to the Agency, a distress call was received at about 12:55 a.m. from a caller identified as Mr. Tunde.

Firefighters, led by Chief Fire Superintendent (CFS) Adekola, were immediately deployed to the scene. On arrival, the team encountered a fabricated structure housing the workshop engulfed in flames and thick smoke. The officers promptly initiated a coordinated firefighting operation, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to nearby shops and properties.

Preliminary findings indicated that the fire was caused by unattended refuse burning. The Agency confirmed that properties worth millions of naira were salvaged during the operation, which concluded with the safe return of the fire crew to the station at about 2:03 a.m.
In a separate incident, the Agency responded to a residential fire outbreak at No. 63, Marvelous Alabi Close, Akala Expressway, Ibadan, on Friday, March 27, 2026. The emergency call was received at approximately 10:01 a.m. from Mr. Jamiu.
A team of firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Adeniyi, was promptly dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, they discovered that a room on the upper floor of a three-bedroom duplex was on fire. The officers swiftly brought the situation under control, ensuring that the flames did not spread to other parts of the building.
The cause of the fire was traced to electrical sparks originating from a gear switch. As with the earlier incident, no casualties were recorded. The firefighting operation was successfully concluded, and the crew returned to the station at about 1:21 p.m.
Reacting to the incidents, the Special Adviser on Fire Service Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to fire safety practices. He emphasized the importance of installing functional fire extinguishers in homes and commercial buildings to curb fire outbreaks at their early stages.
He also advised the public to promptly report fire incidents and provide accurate addresses when contacting emergency responders. Residents can reach the Oyo State Fire Services Agency through its emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or the toll-free number 615.
