The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained a fire incident involving a trailer truck along the Alakia Expressway in Ibadan, preventing extensive damage and potential casualties.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at about 6:16 a.m., following a distress call received through a running alert and the Oyo State Security Trust Fund. The emergency was reported at a location in front of JELFAD Filling Station.

According to the agency, firefighters led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele responded promptly to the call and arrived at the scene to find an Iveco trailer truck, with an unidentified registration number, engulfed in flames while in motion. The vehicle was loaded with palm kernel shafts.

The fire service team immediately swung into action, successfully preventing the blaze from completely consuming the truck’s cargo and spreading to nearby vehicles. Their swift intervention averted what could have escalated into a more severe incident.

No casualties were recorded in the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by electrical sparks emanating from the engine compartment while the vehicle was in motion.

Following the operation, the fire crew safely returned to their station at approximately 7:32 a.m. and remained on standby for further emergencies.

The agency reiterated the importance of timely reporting of fire outbreaks, urging residents to always provide accurate information when contacting emergency responders.
