The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has successfully contained a fire outbreak that engulfed a shop at the Tecno Complex Roundabout in Mokola, Ibadan, preventing the inferno from spreading to adjoining businesses and nearby properties.
According to the Agency, a distress call was received at about 8:15 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, from a resident, Mr. Oluyomade Adepeju, reporting a fire incident at the commercial complex.

A team of firefighters led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Amoo was immediately deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the responders discovered that the second shop on the upper floor of the commercial building had been engulfed by flames, while thick smoke billowed from the premises.

The firefighters swiftly commenced firefighting operations and successfully brought the blaze under control, preventing extensive damage to neighbouring shops and surrounding structures.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the Agency revealed that the fire was triggered by the explosion of a mobile phone battery, which ignited combustible materials within the shop.
No casualty was recorded in the incident.
The firefighting team concluded operations and returned safely to base at about 10:58 p.m., resuming operational standby thereafter.
The Agency commended officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force attached to the Mokola Divisional Headquarters for providing adequate security throughout the emergency operation.
Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to observe safety precautions when handling electrical and electronic devices.
He warned that negligence in the use of such appliances could lead to explosions and devastating fire outbreaks, stressing the need for heightened public awareness on fire safety measures.
Akinwande also advised owners of commercial buildings to install functional fire extinguishers to enable prompt intervention during the early stages of fire incidents.
He further urged members of the public to report fire emergencies promptly and provide accurate location details through the Agency’s emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or the toll-free number 615.
