Fire Outbreak At Fajuyi Road Contained, Investigation Underway ~ Oyo Fire Service Agency Chairman

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has confirmed the containment of a fire outbreak that affected three shops at NW4/203 Fajuyi Road, Queen Cinema area of Ibadan on Sunday evening.

According to the agency, the incident was reported at exactly 7:44 p.m. on March 1, 2026, through a telephone call from Mr. Lateef Jayeoba. Firefighters, led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Amoo, were immediately deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered that three out of six shops in the building were engulfed in flames. The firemen swiftly brought the situation under control, successfully preventing the spread of the fire to adjoining shops and nearby properties.

No casualties were recorded in the incident. While three shops were affected by the blaze, properties worth millions of naira were salvaged due to the prompt intervention of the fire service.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation.

Following the operation, the Officer-in-Charge addressed shop owners and bystanders, delivering a lecture on fire prevention and emphasizing the importance of promptly alerting the fire service and providing accurate location details during emergencies.

The Nigeria Police Force, Mokola Division, was commended for providing security cover throughout the firefighting operation.

The firefighting appliance returned to the station at 9:14 p.m. and resumed operational standby.

In a related statement, the Chairman of the Agency and Special Adviser on Fire Reform, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged residents to prioritize fire safety measures. He stressed the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes and commercial premises to curb fire incidents at their early stages.
