The Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, has called for effective collaboration with Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) stakeholders to ensure the smooth upgrading of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to international standards.

Hon. Sanda made this appeal during a town hall meeting with stakeholders and residents of Egbeda Local Government Area, convened to discuss the ongoing transformation of the airport.

In his address, the council chairman stressed the importance of collective support for the Oyo State Government’s vision of repositioning the airport into a world-class facility. He lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to infrastructure development, noting that the governor’s efforts would soon allow Oyo pilgrims to embark on direct flights from Ibadan to Saudi Arabia.

“Governor Makinde has consistently emphasized that projects like the Ibadan Airport upgrade and the Circular Road are pivotal to the state’s economic revival. These initiatives will open up Oyo to greater opportunities and expand our economy,” Hon. Sanda said.

Leading the ESIA team, Mrs. Omotolani Olaleye explained that the project is spearheaded by the Oyo State Investment and Public Private Partnership Agency (OYSIPA) to expand the airport’s capacity for international passengers and cargo operations, while also boosting regional connectivity across the Southwest.

She added that, in line with international best practices, the airport expansion must undergo a comprehensive Environmental and Social Impact Assessment covering both construction and operational phases.
