The Chairman of Ibadan South West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence for outstanding contributions to education and local administration.
The award was presented to him during the public presentation and book launch of “The Nigerian Crisis: From Diagnosis to Solution” authored by Marvel Oghene. The event held at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Jericho, Ibadan, drew dignitaries from across Oyo State and beyond.

Hon. Akande, who was the Guest of Honour, was recognized for his people-centered approach to governance, with particular commendation for his interventions in the education sector. Under his administration, Ibadan South West has rolled out extra lesson programs, learning materials, and support initiatives aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and improving students’ performance.

In his remarks, Hon. Akande dedicated the award to the people of Ibadan South West and reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development. “Education remains the bedrock of any society. As a government, we will continue to invest in our children because they are the future of our local government and Nigeria at large,” he said.

The Royal Father of the Day, the Baale of Mokola, Chief Abonde, prayed for the author, the honorees, and for continued peace and progress in Ibadan.
Delivering the keynote address, Ms. Olamide Keshinro dissected the themes in “The Nigerian Crisis: From Diagnosis to Solution.” She stressed that sustainable development must begin at the local government level, with leaders who are accountable, accessible, and committed to service delivery.
Author of the book, Marvel Oghene, said the work was borne out of the need to proffer practical answers to Nigeria’s socio-economic, political, and security challenges. He noted that local government chairmen like Hon. Akande are showing that progress is possible when leadership is focused on the people.
Community leaders, educators at the event applauded Hon. Akande’s efforts, citing his support for schools and youth programs in Ibadan South West as evidence of impactful leadership.
The event also featured goodwill messages, panel discussions, and the presentation of awards to other individuals who have distinguished themselves in various fields.
The book launch ended with a call for collective action by government, civil society, and citizens to address Nigeria’s challenges from the grassroots up.
