The Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, has issued a flood alert to residents, warning of possible flooding in the area between September and November 2025, in line with predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA).
The warning was delivered during a sensitisation campaign tagged “Flood Preparedness: Be Aware, Be Prepared, Take Action”, organized to educate residents of flood-prone communities within the council.

Hon. Sanda cautioned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways, which he identified as a major factor responsible for devastating floods in many parts of the country. He further advised residents to avoid walking, swimming, or playing in floodwaters, describing such actions as extremely dangerous.

“We remain committed to protecting lives and property, and dedicated to averting the menace of flooding in our council area,” the council boss declared. “The local government will continue to take proactive steps to safeguard our people.”
He also called for the cooperation of residents, stressing that mitigating flood risks requires joint responsibility and community-wide effort.
The sensitisation programme was attended by heads of departments, deputies, and unit heads across the local government, all of whom pledged their support for the preventive measures.
