The Chairperson of Lagelu Local Government, Mrs. Taiwo Abibat Mudashiru on Tuesday kicked off a Measles and Rubella vaccination campaign targeting children aged nine months to fourteen years. The launch program, held at the Local Government Secretariat in Iyana-Offa, marked a significant step toward building a healthier and stronger future for every child in Lagelu.

The campaign, aimed at protecting young ones from the preventable yet potentially devastating diseases of measles and rubella, was met with enthusiasm from community leaders, healthcare workers, and parents alike. The Chairperson, addressing a lively crowd of stakeholders at the Secretariat, passionately urged parents to take their children to the nearest Primary Healthcare Center (PHC) to receive the free vaccinations. “Our children are our pride, our joy, and our future,” the Chairperson declared. “Let’s make Lagelu healthier, stronger, and truly incredible by ensuring every child is protected.”

The event was a colorful affair, with health officials, community mobilizers, and local volunteers rallying to spread awareness about the importance of immunization. Educational sessions highlighted how measles, a highly contagious viral disease, and rubella, which can cause severe congenital defects if contracted during pregnancy, pose significant risks to unvaccinated children. The vaccines, provided free of charge, are a proven shield against these threats.

Parents in attendance expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting its accessibility and the Chairperson’s commitment to child welfare. The campaign will run across all Primary Healthcare Centers in Lagelu, with health workers equipped to administer vaccines and provide guidance to parents. The Chairperson emphasized the importance of community participation, calling on parents, guardians, and community leaders to spread the word and bring every eligible child for vaccination.
