The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that two persons abducted in Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area of the state, have been rescued.
This was as the police authority described the information as false, misleading and capable of undermining ongoing security operations.

The latest clarification comes amid heightened concerns over kidnapping and other security challenges in parts of Oke-Ogun and other areas of Oyo State, with security agencies continuing efforts to curb criminal activities and reassure residents of their safety.

Recall that reports of the victims release from their abductors by a section of the online media flooded the social media after a viral video of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as ‘Sunday Igboho’ was seen declaring a two hours ultimatum for the safe release and return of the abductees.
The Command specifically refuted a viral video and related online content alleging that Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi and her son, who were abducted at Igbope on June 16, 2026, had regained their freedom.
In an official statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command stated unequivocally that the purported rescue claim was unfounded and did not reflect the true situation on the ground.
According to the police spokesperson, security agencies have continued to intensify efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims while also tracking down those responsible for the abduction.
“The Oyo State Police Command has taken notice of a video and related online contents alleging that the victims abducted at Igbope on 16th June, 2026, namely Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi and her son, have been rescued.
“The Command wishes to state unequivocally that the claim contained in the circulated video is false, unfounded, and misleading,” the statement read.
The Command explained that since the incident was reported, it had sustained operational and intelligence-driven activities in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure the victims’ safe return and the arrest of the perpetrators.
Police authorities warned that the dissemination of unverified information at such a sensitive stage of the operation could create unnecessary panic, distort public understanding of the situation and potentially hamper ongoing rescue efforts.
“The circulation of unverified information at this critical period is capable of creating false narratives, generating unnecessary confusion, and undermining ongoing rescue efforts,” the Command added.
The police therefore urged members of the public to exercise caution in sharing information related to security matters, particularly those involving ongoing investigations and rescue missions.
The Command also appealed to residents and individuals who may have credible information that could assist security operatives in locating the victims to promptly make such information available to the authorities.
It further advised citizens to rely solely on official communication channels for updates on the case and to verify the authenticity of information before forwarding or publishing it.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Oyo State Police Command assured residents that every necessary measure was being taken to secure the release of the abductees and ensure that those behind the crime face the full weight of the law.
“The Oyo State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safe rescue of the victims and maintaining public safety across the state,” the statement concluded.
