The Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Oyo Zonal Command, on Thursday averted a potential fire disaster following an accident involving a petrol tanker along the Ibadan/Oyo Expressway at the Gold ‘N’ Rock area of Oyo town.
The incident was reported at exactly 9:19 a.m. through a telephone call by one Mr. Blessing, prompting an immediate response from officers of the agency led by Fire Officer II Yisau.

According to the agency, the affected vehicle was a Mack trailer tanker bearing registration number RANO 807XA (Lagos), loaded with 60,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). The tanker reportedly swerved off the road into a nearby ditch, leading to the spillage of its contents.

On arrival at the scene, firefighters swiftly commenced safety operations by blanketing the affected area with foam chemical compounds to prevent a possible fire outbreak and safeguard lives and property within the vicinity.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force from the Ojongbondu Divisional Headquarters were also present to maintain law and order during the emergency operation.
Authorities confirmed that no casualty was recorded in the incident, which was attributed to overspeeding and the bad condition of the road caused by potholes.
Normal vehicular movement and commercial activities were later restored in the area after emergency responders secured the scene.
The fire service team returned safely to the station at about 3:14 p.m. and remained on standby for further operations.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged motorists to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to avoid road accidents.
He also stressed the importance of installing fire extinguishers in public and commercial buildings to help contain fire incidents at the early stage.
The agency further appealed to members of the public to promptly report fire emergencies and provide accurate addresses through its emergency lines: 08067439223, 08054353501, or the toll-free line 615.
